DaY 1 oF cLiniCALs...

okay guys it's confirmed!! I AM attending the congress on TUesday, 25th july... decided to fork out the really expensive price to attend the congress, considering that this might be my only opportunity to attend it since it's held at where I am now...

Day 1 of clinicals...
nothing very happening... woke up early in the morning at 4am to watch the world cup finals... in the end, bcos the game went into penalty shootouts, I missed the ending cos i had to leave the house to catch the train... the journey to kingswood was horrible, freezing and i was so urgent... there were no toilets nearby so i had to endure like 45mins till i got to the station... normally, i dun even want to use the toilets in the station, but today really cannot 'dahan' already... my bladder's about to burst man... :(

the first session was an orientation ard the hospital where the supervisor brought us ard the hospital showing us where all the different departments and wards are... and after that, more talking abt the policies and procedures of the hospital... blah blah blah...
then after that, the 4 of us split up and followed our respective assigned supervisors... my supervisor was called Rebekah and she looks after the acute stroke ward... first, she brought me to the ward, and showed me ard again... quite a small ward, and she explained to me that bcos it's an acute stroke setting, we dun get to spend more time with the patients except to do an initial interview, maybe some reviews regarding their ROM, muscle strength, cognitive and perceptive abilities... we only saw 2 patients today... the first lady was quite alert and knew what was going on ard her... my supervisor asked her some questions, like do u know where u are now, asked her to cross out Es from lines of alphabets, and got her to undo her buttons...

our second patient was also an elderly lady, she was also quite lucid, but she spoke really basic english and her daughter had to translate for us... her only deficit was her weak left upper limb, but i thought we actually listened to her stories more than we did therapy with her... that seemed to occur often when we are dealing with the elderly... i like listening to their stories... like last time in njc, when we had to do community service at this nursing home, and the elderly there always got some stories to tell... even though sometimes i have no idea what they were talking abt since they were in dialects and i just nod my head... haha...

my supervisor was quite unprepared though cos she also just came back from holidays and she did not expect such a heavy workload... so when she had to do settle some stuff, she would dig out some stroke stuff and ask me to read... not that i am complaining, but i was really sleepy cos i woke up so early today... and i dun think the stuff i was reading actually went into my head... sigh... and... i actually dozed off while reading... luckily nobody walked past... and bcos this year's placement was supposed to be a 3 weeks placement, but the school shortened it into a 2week one, we had to do a project after the placement... and we have to come up with the topic ourselves... thinking abt the project is giving me a headache... when i get home, the only thing i wanna do is watch my kim sam soon... :(
